CID video reflection - Jaslyn

I've learnt that even though leaders are important, the first follower is always the one who makes a movement or an organization successful. A leader is needed to guide and lead his followers, but if he has no followers, no matter what he do, nobody would give him their fullest support. However, if an individual takes the initiative to follow the leader, others would naturally follow and hence, a movement or an organization will be complete. Hence, when an organisation/ movement is successful, the credits doesn't always go to the main leader, but to the first, brave follower.

I learnt from the video that every individual follower is important , but the first follower is the most important. He is the one who influences all the other followers and makes the leader successful. The leader is also important in starting the whole thing. Without the leader, followers would not even have a chance to be one. However, without the followers, the leader would not have a chance to be one either. The leader and the followers are interrelated and they depend on each other.

I felt that leadership is really important, but sometimes the willingness of following might be even more important than the willingness of becoming a leader. Being able to step up and take the first move is not easy at all. Just as the video stated, the leader was the one who gets all the credits and the 1st follower would be treated just like the others who joined much later than him or her. What makes the first follower this important, is the fact that they are selfless and the willingness of trusting the leader. A leader might be anyone. The first follower is the one and unique person that opened up all the possible limits and rooms for the leader and the fellow followers.

Leaders are initiators. Followers are responders. Leaders are willing to start off something, no matter how ridiculous it is, for example as shown in the video, the man took off his top and danced in some random place. Being a leader requires courage to be able to lead the rest in doing something.

Leaders cannot exist without followers. Followers also plays an important role. A good follower aids and support the leader whether he or she is doing the right or wrong thing.

The first follower is important. In the video, the first follower joined the man in the dance. This requires courage too. After the first follower joined the leader, others came and join in the dance too. Without the first follower, the rest of the people around wouldn't join in and the leader will seem to be just a crazy person dancing. Therefore, the first follower plays an important role.

A good leader has the ability to demonstrate the skills, knowledge and experience to undertake the tasks expected from him or her.

A good leader takes the lead. A good leader has personality, courage, clear vision with ambition to succeed. A good leader encourages the team to perform.

  After watching the video, I feel that being the first follower requires courage as they have to make a choice whether to follow the person or not for fear of getting ridiculed. The first follower has to persuade the other people that what the leader is doing makes sense so that they will follow them as well.

  As for the leader, I feel that being the leader requires courage because they have to guide a group of people in the right direction and bear the responsibility if something bad happens. 

  Even though the first follower plays a crucial role in persuading people to join, all the work accomplished is credited to the leader as the first follower seems like just the assistant of the leader and is unappreciated.

  In class, we carried out an activity whereby the whole class had to split into 2 equal groups. We then had to choose two people from the other group and ensure that we were standing in the middle of the both of them without telling them we had chosen them. When the game was played properly, it would never end as we would have to adjust our position when the other two people moved. This activity was trying to say that we have to depend and rely on each other, so during the trip, we have to help each other out during difficult times.
